Program Stages
Our Addiction Recovery Program
Residents are encouraged to go through all stages of the program and to take guidance from Pindari to determine whether they are ready to move on to the next stage. You are all individuals, with varying challenges so the program is tailored to you and your progress.
It’s important to be prepared to stay for a while. Changing your life, your thinking, and your way of doing things takes time. Shifting from your past habits and lifestyle cannot happen overnight or even within a few months; there are a lot of moving parts, so it’s important to stick it out for the whole journey. Experience will show that the longer you stay in the program, the greater your chances of achieving long-lasting addiction recovery and success.
Please NoteThere are no set time frames for stage advancement. Advancement to the next stage is based on your individual progress and growth, not time.
STAGE 1
The first stage of the program focuses on establishing an understanding of the client’s commitment to the Program. This stage serves as a time for the client to familiarise and engage with the program, teaching environment, routine, personnel, and operational procedures. The client will be given opportunities to address the drivers of their life-controlling issues through the therapeutic program.
The duration of this stage varies based on the individual, their nonclinical detoxifying needs, cultural background, and their unique circumstances. Clients will be assessed on the ability to accept rules and policies, preparedness to make change, engagement with therapy and teachings, ability to self-regulate, manage themselves and willingness to take advice and input from staff.
STAGE 2
After entering Stage 2, we engage in discussion with each client to plan out, specific areas of focus for improvement, future goals, and possible career opportunities. Where possible we support clients in achieving their goals, whether it involves working, studying, pursuing an apprenticeship, or completing an unfinished trade.
Depending on progress, attitude and engagement in the program, clients can commence part-time paid work (usually up to two days a week) with an employer aligned with our program goals. This means the employer provides a safe work environment, refrains from pairing the client with someone struggling with addiction and will be a positive influence in their life.
Income earned is used to reduce reliance on Centrelink, contribute towards program costs, unpaid fines, and any debts, and then go to items such as obtaining a driver’s licence, or purchasing a car. This gradual reintroduction to the workforce helps gauge the progress of the client, and allows adjustment as needed.
STAGE 3
Entering Stage 3 there is potential to increase work commitments while remaining connected with Pindari and supporting clients in earlier stages. Clients gain freedom to go to and from the property within designated times and engage in extracurricular activities. This phase fosters a sense of independence while keeping clients accountable to the leadership team. Clients will need to continue to mature in their self-sufficiency, and self-regulation while having a support network and receive guidance for any challenges that arise.
STAGE 4
By this advanced stage, residents have gained considerable independence and autonomy in making life choices. We encourage them to work diligently and nurture relationships with their families, friends, and the wider community. In this phase, we emphasise the importance of receiving additional mentoring. Clients need to support other clients, and actively contribute to the program by helping to maintain the program’s culture.
Upon completion of this stage, you may have the opportunity to apply to live in a transitional house, while still benefiting from the support offered by Pindari. We will help guide you to secure suitable work and accommodation that will help you continue on your growth journey.
STAGE 5
Stage 5 is the pinnacle of the Pindari House Program, emphasizing independence, accountability, and mentorship. The focus is on fostering a sustainable and independent lifestyle while maintaining strong connections with the Pindari community.
